, the 8 little boys, and the 6 dedicated women who died at sandy hook elementary school one week ago. today, here in newtown, at 9:30 in the morning, bells rang out for each of the people whose lives were lost, mothers and daughters, sons and nieces and nephews. we remember them all. [ bell tolling ] for the next hour, we'll hear from family members because they want a voice, and we want to give to them. a voice to tell us about their children, how special they were, the lives they lived. we don't want to just focus on how they die. we want to focus on how they lived and the lives they touched and they have touched so many lives. we'll hear from the mcdonnell family who graciously invited us into their home to tell us about their bright, talented 7-year-old daughter grace. grace was laid to rest today. her funeral today. there were also funerals for olivia and for dylan and for mary and for rachel. we remember them all. dylan hockley moved to newtown from england just two years ago. he was 6 yearsoles old. a special needs child, his parents chose this community for the good reputatio

with at sandy hook is that the firearm industry's association their headquarters are located just across the highway from the sandy hook elementary school and while focusing on large capacity weapons is important, i also have a bill, hr 66 a. legislation aimed at establishing a nationwide system for prohibiting unlicensed gun ownership and granting the u.s. attorney general broader authority on the program. as sad as the sandy hook incident is for all of us, we must be cognizant of the fact that gun violence has been terrorizing neighborhoods in chicago, detroit, houston, washington washington, d.c. for over decades now. one of my local newspapers, the "chicago tribune," reports that at the end of march, murders in my city had spiked almost 60%. and as of june, homicides in chicago were up almost 20% over last year. 488 murders to date. ranging from 18 months to 19 years. these are americans also shot down like dogs in the street. as i recall being in the hospital room when my son was pronounced dead, there was a primal scream that came from his sister, his mother. it wasn't a scream of

covered this ever night since the sandy hook massacre and we did the same after aurora and others and there's been this escalation in the scale of these atrocities and i have been getting angry this week at some of the gun rights people who have come on the show, very angry, and i have been accused of being rude and all the rest of it. if you can't get angry over the cold-blooded murder of 20 school children age 6 and 7 years old, when do you get angry? who do americans say enough, this is not going to continue? by the way, what he didn't mention today, wayne lapierre, he didn't mention anything about assault weapons other than to try to play down what they are. he didn't mention high-capacity magazines. he didn't explain why the killer in aurora needed 100 bullets in a magazine. what is the purchase of the mass slaughter. nor did he mention background checks. 40% of all gun trades, there's no background check. had he done any of those things, someone would have said, he's making some good effort. there was nothing. >> that's right. a guy like me who thinks there's just too many h
